Everything you wanted to know (and maybe a few things you didn’t) about Darrell Brogdon
What's your favorite color?
Green, though I realized the other day I have a lot of red shirts for some reason.
What's one of the things you are most proud of having done in your life?
I got my blue belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu earlier this year. That ain’t easy. Look up "Brazilian Jiu Jitsu shark tank” on YouTube.
What are the top 3 items on your bucket list?
I don’t have a bucket list. Maybe “start a bucket list” should be item number one.
Tell us a funny story involving a pet or significant other.
My grandparents used to have a dog named “Wendy” but, being Southerners, we pronounced it “Windy”. Which was an appropriate name for that particular dog. She was known to frequently “fluff”, as my grandmother likes to say. It’s hard to believe such a little dog could clear a room.
If you could meet anyone, living or dead, who would it be and why?
Me at a younger age. So that way I could say to myself, “Come here, young me. Pull up a chair. We’re going to be here awhile…”, and then start rattling off some of the epically dumb things that I should avoid that, sure, did teach me valuable life lessons but if I’m allowed to indulge in this time traveling fantasy of mine then I’m allowed to steer my younger self toward a completely new set of stupid things to do.
Imagine you won $10 million in the lottery today. What would you do?
Compensate some paleontologists by fully funding their dig for a further three years.
What was the last gift you gave someone?
I gave my kids the third installment of the Warrior Kid series of books by Jocko Willink. Though, let’s be honest, it was for me too. Great books!
Do you have any charitable organizations that are meaningful to you? What is it that you like about it?
Compass Montessori Education Foundation which was created to support the school my kids attend.
If you could compare yourself with any animal, which would it be and why?
A giraffe. Though I’m not tall or lanky like them, we can both be relatively quiet, we're goofy looking if you squint, and we both have spots.
Tell us something that is obvious to you but that you've learned is not obvious to everyone.
Well, I attended Juilliard. I’m a graduate of Harvard Business School. I travel extensively. I lived through the black plague. I’ve seen The Exorcist about 167 times… and it keeps getting funnier every time I see it!*
* None of that is true. The Exorcist terrified me. I had a really bad case of chicken pox when I was a toddler, but that passed and I’m no worse for the wear. I don’t really like traveling that much (looking at you TSA and airlines). I didn’t even finish college. And I’m not even certain that’s how you spell “Juilliard”.
