Tips for believing in your idea
You’ve heard the story a thousand times: A Person brilliantly thinks up and announces I have an idea for an app or software idea; person starts doing research to figure out how to implement that idea; person gets overwhelmed and gives up. This happens so frequently, so we wanted to give you a few tips to help keep the spark alive.
Build your team
The best way to keep at a thing is if you aren’t alone. And in the world of building a new company or technology, your team is the absolute most important thing. Getting great people with past success on board with your idea will help ensure that you have lots of support when times get tough and give your project that much higher likelihood of success.
The projects look for app development companies or individual developers as their first team members and strategic partners, and that’s a great place to start. Also look for people who have had past success developing or selling a company in your target industry or in a complimentary industry, as those types of people will bring intrinsic value and incredible knowledge to help you avoid common pitfalls.
Talk to lots of people
It’s tempting to think of your idea like a high-security clearance secret that must be kept at all costs. Resist the temptation! You need to talk to as many people as you can all along the journey of building your startup. Start with close friends and family, as this will help you begin to solidify your message and hone your idea. Then start making new friends, all of whom should be part of your target audience. Find out what problems they have, talk about how you want to solve their problem and see what other ideas come out of those conversations.
The more people you talk to, the more information you’ll gather about what you want to do and how you can accomplish it as successfully as possible. You will also find that every person you talk to becomes someone listening to you as the person who will follow-through and solve the problem you set out to solve. That’s an incredibly powerful thing to have surrounding you, and it will give you strength and heart if and when you need it most.
Keep going
There absolutely, without a doubt, will come a time when you want to give up. When you feel like it’s not happening fast enough, or you question whether you’re doing the right things. This is completely normal, and the difference between an entrepreneur and a 9-to-5-Joe is that the entrepreneur keeps going.
If you say to yourself, “I have an idea for an app” and then you do the work to build a team and get an app prototype done, then you have already shown you have what it takes to go the distance… So keep going! Keep your eyes on the prize, reach into your team and audience network for support, and take the next step.
Most successful entrepreneurs we talk to say the same thing: there was a time when they had doubt and when they didn’t know how or when their idea would take off, but they kept the faith it would happen.
Eyes on the prize, keep the faith… Feed the spark.
