The Startup Therapy Couch™: Reason 7 of 7 your startup is failing - "You don't have good mentors"
Reason #7: You don't have any good mentors in your corner
This might sound a little like Reason 5, "You took some bad advice", but these two things are distinct. Bad advice can come from anywhere, even from a good mentor. But there's no way you'll get the good advice or the support you need to avoid as many pitfalls and gotchyas as possible if you don't have good mentors on your side!
These could be people with past experience in the industry you're targeting, or people with past or current experience building the type of business you're trying to build. Maybe they've invested in something similar previously or they are just really smart and good at whatever it is you're doing.
Regardless of how the come by their street cred, you need these people. While you are definitely the only one who can make or break your company, the biggest way you set yourself up to be made is by having smart, qualified, competent mentors and coaches all around you. And then by taking their good advice and coaching. :)
