The Startup Therapy Couch™: Critical Factors for Startup Success - #5 Tried and True
In this series, we're diving into the most critical factors for startup success. These are the criteria that most often are present when a startup "makes it".
The fifth critical success factor for any startup is "tried and true". What the heck does that mean?
In this context, we're talking about your technology decisions. Unless you are one of very few companies that are inventing some new technology, you do not need leading edge, bleeding edge, anything edge-ish to accomplish your goals. "But I want to use the word Blockchain in my marketing materials!" Yeah, you still don't need it.
Thinking you need fancy, new, trendy tech is only going to cost you more time and money to get to market, if you ever get to market at all. There's a reason new technology takes so long to develop. Because it's not well understood, and there's 5 guys in Zurich who actually understand it! That doesn't set you up for manageable, understandable costs to build and maintain your software, website or app.
Using well-understood programming languages and constructs to build your tech will help you save time and money and ensure you get to market as quickly as possible for your situation.
And then, after your MVP, if your users are really, REALLY begging for Blockchain... Well, then go for it! (But charge extra, duh!)
